Jessica and Willie up a tree…

Jessica Simpsons cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walking” is notable for a couple of things.

Firstly, the sound clash between the original 60’s ish feel of the song, the 2005 pop music tune Jessica sings to, and the country interludes which are tettering on the edge of being bad rather than kitsch.

Secondly, the fact that the video features prominately Willie Nelson as Jessica Simpson’s backing singer/accoustic guitarist. Yes in among Jessica, shaking her booty, showing her cleevage, dancing provocatively, cleaning the “General Lee” in a barn with only a bikini on, starting a bar fight, and dancing accross a bar gyrating in mens faces and kicking them in the face equally, Willie Nelson pops up.

I knew he was in the film, but not even a “featuring willie nelson”, or “special guest Willie Nelson” on the video or the single. Perhaps Willie hasn’t sold enough records to on a par with Jessica fame wise. After all Nick and Jessica Newlyweds made me value her as an artist, above her contempories. I will never forget the episode where she realised couldn’t shut the garage door and nick was out. It was priceless, Pure Comedy Genius at work there.

Or perhaps. country isn’t trendy
Perhaps. Being old isn’t the way to get to number one.

(ps. she kisses willie in the video. he looks bemused. anyway)
